Can You Put Permanent Lights on a Tile or Flat Parapet Roof?
Two roof styles that define Valley housing, and how a roofline strip is fitted to each.
Yes, permanent roofline lighting is installed on both tile roofs and flat roofs with a parapet in the Phoenix area, and the exact mount is confirmed on site at your free design consult. The strip is flush, low-profile, and color-matched to your trim, so it follows the edge of whichever roof you have.
Why Valley roofs are different
Phoenix-area homes include stucco under concrete or clay tile, and Santa Fe and modern designs with a flat roof hidden behind a low wall called a parapet. These are very different edges to work with. Tile roofs have a profile with ridges and curves along the bottom. Parapet roofs have a clean vertical wall and may have almost no overhang.
Tile roofs
On a tile home, the question is where along the edge the strip attaches and how it follows the shape of the roof. A professional crew handles that, and a specialist looks at your actual edge at the consult instead of working from a photo. Roofs may have been repaired or re-roofed, so the edge can vary even on the same street.
- Check the edge. Every tile roof is looked at in person.
- Color-match. The strip blends with your trim by day.
- No ladder for you. The crew does the roof work.
Flat roofs and parapet walls
A parapet leaves little to clip onto, which is the reason string lights are awkward on these homes. A flush-mounted strip does not rely on a hanging edge. Where it goes depends on the wall and the details of the house, and that is another thing we check on site. We do not promise a mount on a home we have not seen. If your home has a low wall, flat sections, or both, tell the specialist and walk the roofline together.
What stays the same on every roof
The strip itself is the same product everywhere: 16 million+ colors, app control with scheduling, zones, music sync, and saved scenes, LEDs rated for 50,000+ hours, and a waterproof, anti-UV sealed housing. It is low-profile and flush-mounted along the roofline. What changes between a tile roof and a parapet roof is the mounting detail, not what you get when the lights come on.
Things to tell the specialist
- Whether your roof is tile, flat with a parapet, or a mix of both.
- Any sections that have been re-roofed or repaired.
- Which elevations you want lit most.
- Whether you live in an HOA community that reviews exterior changes.

Mixed roofs are common
Plenty of Valley homes are not one roof type. A house might have a tile pitch over the main living area, a flat section over the garage, and a low wall around a second-story deck. The strip can follow more than one kind of edge on the same house, and the design step is where those transitions get planned. Zones then let you decide which sections run together. A single scene can wash across the whole front, or each section can carry its own color for a game day or a holiday.
Quick answers
Can permanent lights go on a concrete tile roof?
Tile roofs are one of the roof types we see in the Valley, and the fit is confirmed on site at the free design consult, since every house is a little different.
What if my flat roof has a low parapet and almost no edge?
Low walls leave little overhang, so the mount is checked in person at the free design consult before a plan is made.
Will the strip be visible on my stucco during the day?
It is low-profile and color-matched to your trim, so it reads as part of the house by day.
