Do Permanent Lights Hold Up in Phoenix Summer Heat?
What the build does, what we do not claim, and the questions worth asking before the first Valley summer.
Apollo's roofline strip is built with a sealed, waterproof, anti-UV housing and LEDs rated for 50,000+ hours. We do not publish a temperature rating, so the honest answer for your specific roof is to raise it at your free design consult.
What Phoenix summer actually asks of a fixture
Phoenix summers regularly run past 100 degrees, and roofs and stucco hold that heat well after sunset. Anything mounted on the outside of a Valley house sits in direct sun for months. It is fair to ask any installer how their product is built for it.
There are two separate problems. One is sunlight, which fades and breaks down exposed materials over time. The other is the heat itself, which stresses electronics. A good answer addresses both, and a vague answer is a reason to ask more questions.
What we can say about the build
The housing around the LEDs is sealed, waterproof, and anti-UV. Sealing keeps moisture out, the anti-UV material is there to resist sun exposure, and the strip mounts flush along the roofline instead of hanging in the open. The LEDs themselves are rated for 50,000+ hours. By day the strip is low-profile and color-matched to your trim, so it blends in instead of reading as a string of lights.
- Sealed housing. Waterproof and built to resist sun exposure.
- Rated LEDs. 50,000+ hours of rated life.
- Flush mount. The strip sits along the roofline rather than dangling from clips.
What we do not claim
We do not give a maximum operating temperature, and we do not promise how the strip will look in any particular number of years. Those would be numbers we have not published, so we leave them out. What we offer instead is a look at your actual roof. Sun exposure varies a lot by direction, so a south-facing elevation and a shaded porch edge are different situations, and a specialist can talk through them with you.
Why summer is a good reason to skip the ladder
A hot tile roof in July is not a place to hang string lights, and it is not a place to take them down in January either. With a permanent system the work happens once, by a professional crew, and you never put a ladder against the house. After that, scenes and schedules run from your phone. You can switch to a warm white scene in August for the patio and still have a full holiday show ready in December without going outside.
Questions to bring to your design consult
- Which sides of my house get the most direct sun, and does that change the plan?
- Where would the controller sit, and is that spot out of the sun?
- How does the strip attach to my roof edge, tile or stucco?
- What should I do if a section stops working?
None of these have a one-size answer. That is why the first visit is a free consult on your property and not a quote over email.
Where this fits in the Valley
The same question comes up from Mesa to Scottsdale, and the answer starts with the same build. If you live in Mesa, see our Mesa permanent lighting page. For the full picture of the system, visit permanent outdoor lighting in Phoenix.
Heat and the rest of the year
Summer is only part of the picture. Phoenix winters are mild, and the cool season is when the patio gets the most use and holiday decorations go up. A system that handles the long hot stretch also has to be ready for that short window. The app lets you schedule scenes in advance, so a December scene can be waiting in the background while you run a quiet warm white through the summer evenings.
Quick answers
Do you publish a temperature rating for the strip?
No. We describe the build, which is a sealed, waterproof, anti-UV housing and LEDs rated for 50,000+ hours, and we do not put a temperature number on it. Ask about your specific roof at the free design consult.
Will the strip fade in the Arizona sun?
The housing is waterproof and anti-UV sealed, and the LEDs are rated for 50,000+ hours. It is color-matched to your trim by day.
Can I change colors in July without going on the roof?
Yes. Every color, zone, and schedule is controlled from the app, and a professional crew handles the install, so you never need a ladder.
